LASER-ASSISTED MICROFLUIDIC ENDODONTIC IRRIGATION DEVICE
EdgeEndo (855-TO-CLEAN; edgeproendo.com) has announced receiving U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the EdgePRO system, which is designed for clinicians seeking a more effective cleaning and disinfection alternative for root canal treatment. The new laser-assisted microfluidic irrigation device offers an advanced solution to current cleaning and disinfection techniques, without disrupting procedural workflows. The EdgePRO is built upon BIOLASE’s proven Er,Cr:YSGG 2780-nm laser technology that has been shown to provide outstanding debridement, cleaning and disinfection by removing infected tissue, biofilm and smear layer. It also kills up to 99% of bacteria commonly found in the root canal through the combination of advanced laser light/sound technology with traditional irrigant solutions.
INTERNET PHONE SOLUTION RINGS UP NEW BUSINESS
Henry Schein One (800-336-8749; henryscheinone.com) has introduced PhoneSight, a voice over Internet protocol solution that integrates with Henry Schein One patient communication software to streamline front office operations. PhoneSight helps automate voice communications, while its simple interface and integration with Dentrix Patient Engage, Demandforce, and Lighthouse make it easy for dental staff to make and route calls and personalize patient interactions. When a patient calls the practice, PhoneSight uses Smart Caller ID to instantly display key patient information, such as upcoming appointments. In addition, PhoneSight delivers an enhanced experience for incoming callers, including custom greetings, auto attendants to present routing options, and custom hold music and messages.
INTRAORAL SENSOR DESIGN AIDS PLACEMENT
Available in sizes 1 and 2, the new SensorX intraoral sensor from Air Techniques (800-AIR-TECH; airtechniques.com) features rounded corners for patient comfort and ease of placement. Clinical use is further aided by the white housing that makes the sensor easy to see and position within the oral cavity; additionally, the design allows the device to be positioned closer to the tooth for sharper radiographs. Designed to offer excellent image quality, SensorX features enhanced CsI complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology that ensures fast transmission of high-resolution images. The new Air Techniques scintillator layer reduces scatter and concentrates light collection, further supporting diagnostic imaging. Direct USB connectivity and plug-and-play simplicity round out the SensorX’s offerings.
PROPHY PASTE FEATURES HYDROXYAPATITE
Directa’s (800-537-8765; directausa.com) ProphyCare lineup has expanded with the addition of ProphyPaste HAp. Designed for effective stain removal and gentle final polishing, the mint-flavored formula’s unique composition includes hydroxyapatite to effectively block open dentinal tubules, providing a barrier for instant relief from hypersensitivity. In addition, the cleaning power of this one-step paste transitions to gentle polishing as its particle size is fragmented during prophylaxis, which saves chairtime. Featuring a smooth and creamy texture, the product reportedly will not liquefy or separate, and is easy to rinse off.
PIT AND FISSURE SEALANT OFFERS IMPROVED FORMULA
Now available in a new opaque white shade that fluoresces under a black light for easy verification of placement and sealant integrity, BioCoat from Premier (888-670-6100; premierdentalco.com) is said to be the only bioactive resin pit and fissure sealant that delivers daily remineralization. Premier’s SmartCap technology provides extended release of calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions to strengthen tooth enamel and protect against acid. BioCoat features excellent handling and adhesion for reliable results. Offering high compressive strength, it resists cracking, chipping and fractures, and helps maintain a smooth surface to prevent plaque from accumulating. Another benefit of the sealant’s excellent retention is that it effectively seals margins against microleakage.
NEW CALCIUM PHOSPHATE TECHNOLOGY AIDS REMINERALIZATION
Pulpdent (800-343-4342; pulpdent.com) has announced that its newly patented Crysta technology is available immediately in ACTIVA Presto, the company’s new universal light-cure bioactive restorative. Crysta is the trade name for methacrylate-functionalized calcium phosphate (MCP), a bioactive molecule developed by the Pulpdent research team. The proprietary MCP technology facilitates tooth remineralization through the transfer and precipitation of calcium, fluoride and phosphate. When placed in a dental composite, Crysta facilitates a hydroxyapatite bridge between tooth structure and the composite. It also enables top-tier esthetics, which lets dentists use bioactive composites in the esthetic zone with excellent results. Available in multiple shades, ACTIVA Presto can also be used in posterior applications. The material offers stackable handling, and also benefits from Pulpdent’s proprietary rubberized resin and moisture-friendly technology, which ensure durability and worry-free placement.
