Huakun Xu Receives IADR’s Isaac Schour Memorial Award for Biomaterials Research
BALTIMORE, MD. — The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has honored Huakun Xu, PhD, MS, professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD), in Baltimore, Maryland, as the recipient of the 2018 IADR Isaac Schour Memorial Award.
Xu and his colleagues have developed the first generation of injectable, in-situ setting, load-bearing and resorbable scaffolds for stem cell encapsulation and bone tissue engineering.
He has published nearly 250 peer-review full-length papers in dental, biomedical and tissue engineering journals, and has more than 10 patents and pending patent applications, according to UMSOD.
Xu is a founder of the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Lab in the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics UMSOD, and was among the first researchers to be named a Champion of Excellence at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he and his lab are known for its work using biomaterials to replace mineral loss and regenerate bone.
