Study Provides Free Dental Care and Better Understanding of Periodontitis

0

The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry is conducting a 6-month study on the progression of periodontal diseases among participants with moderate to severe periodontitis. While dental research is typical for UNC’s prestigious dental school, the opportunity to conduct research and help disadvantaged populations access periodontal disease treatment is a unique, win-win situation. The study participants are low-income patients at Vidas De Esperanza, a clinic that provides free or low-cost medical and dental care in Siler City, NC. Patients, many of whom are Spanish-speaking immigrants, will receive free periodontal treatment and $200 cash for participating in the study, which began in January and will conclude in June.
