Nevada Receives Federal Grant to Address Limited Access to Dental Care
With more than 70% of Nevada residents living in healthcare provider shortage areas, the state is mobilized to make some changes, at least when it comes to dental care. The United States Health Resources and Services Administration just awarded the state’s Medicaid program $1.6 million to expand its oral health workforce and improve access to care over the next 4 years. The money will be spent on educating high school students in rural regions to become dental assistants, training nurses to provide oral health assessments, creating two new organizations dedicated to improving access to care—the Nevada Dental Health Collaborative and Office of Oral Heath Innovation—and launching a community dental clinic.
