UNC School of Dentistry Receives $27.7M Gift

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry has been renamed the UNC Claude A. Adams Jr. and Grace Phillips Adams School of Dentistry. In February, the school received a $27.7 million gift from the estate of Claude A. Adams III, DMD, to enable the school to train oral health professionals and offer public programs to the North Carolina community. Adams, who died in 2018, was a dentist in Durham for almost 25 years. In the past, he gifted scholarships to nearly 100 UNC students.

This most recent gift will create new merit scholarships for qualifying students and add to existing scholarship funds. Additional funds will allow the school to provide professorships and staff awards, and recruit staff. The gift also supports further investment to extend the student service-learning program.
