Lyndon F. Cooper, DDS, PhD, is the associate dean for research and head of the Department of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. A diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, he served as the 2010 president of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). Cooper received the ACP’s 2004 Clinician/Researcher Award and the 2009 International Association for Dental Research Distinguished Scientist Award for prosthodontics and implantology. Harold C. Slavkin, DDS, is a professor and dean emeritus at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California in Los Angeles. As former director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), one of the major accomplishments of his tenure at NIDCR was completion of the first U.S. Surgeon General’s Report, Oral Health in America, to focus exclusively on craniofacial and oral health. Slavkin is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. A
cofounder of the Santa Fe Group, an oral health think tank, he was recognized with the 2016 William J. Gies Award for Vision as a Dental Educator and the 2016 American Association for Dental Research Jack Hein Pubic Service Award for promoting oral health research activities to a wide constituency. Carrie Peltier, MS, MPH, is quality improvement project manager
at the DentaQuest Institute, where she manages national quality improvement initiatives focused on caries management. With a passion for disease prevention, she has managed projects involving
obesity prevention and advocacy, oral health, and the benefits of breastfeeding.
Brian B. Nový, DDS, is president of the DentaQuest Oral Health
Center and director of practice improvement at the DentaQuest Institute. A fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Academy of Dentistry International, he served on the American Dental Association (ADA) Council of Scientific Affairs from 2010 to 2014, and as chair of the CAMBRA Coalition through 2015. In 2009, the ADA recognized Nový’s office as the Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year.
Shellie Kolavic Gray, DMD, MPH, is an Atlanta-based public health and infection control consultant. She is a former epidemic intelligence service officer with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and

Felipe B. Porto, DDS, MS, received his dental degree and a degree as a specialist in orthodontics and facial orthopedics from the University of Pernambuco in Brazil. He became certified in orofacial pain and received his Masters of Science degree from the University of Kentucky.
