Purnima S. Kumar, DDS, PhD is is a Najjar Endowed Professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program, she is an active clinician, teacher, researcher, administrator, and mentor. Kumar has authored more than 100 papers and book chapters. She serves as the co-editor of Clinical Advances in Periodontics and associate editor for the Journal of Periodontology, Nature Scientific Reports, and Microbiome. Kumar also serves as the chair of the Continuing Education Oversight Committee for the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and is a member of the AAP’s Taskforce for Women in Periodontics and the Taskforce for Future Science. Eswar Kandaswamy, BDS, is a periodontal resident at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Dentistry in Columbus.
Jeanette MacLean, DDS, DABPD, FAAPD, owns and practices at Affiliated Children’s Dental Specialists in Glendale, Arizona. She lectures on minimally invasive dentistry, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Thomas A. Coleman, DDS, practiced clinical dentistry for nearly 40 years in Vermont, and has published papers on cervical dentin hypersensitivity (CDH), noncarious cervical lesions, the abfractive process, and occlusal diagnosis and therapy. In the late 1970s, he developed a technique known as the air indexing method to detect and quantify CDH. Coleman continues to work with colleagues, including John O. Grippo, DDS, to advance scientific understanding of etiologic factors relating to masticatory system effects on teeth, muscles of mastication, and temporomandibular joint sequelae for occlusal disease.
Stephen A. Rappeport, DDS, has practiced periodontics for more than 35 years in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is an associate professor in the College of Health Science, School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith. Alexander E. Pozhitkov, PhD, is an associate director
in research informatics at City of Hope Cancer Center in Los Angeles.
He also holds a joint appointment at the University of Washington
School of Dentistry. His research interests include the material science
of dental implants and microbiology of periodontitis
Daniel C. Chan, DMD, MS, DDS, is a professor and
chair in restorative dentistry at the University of Washington School
of Dentistry in Seattle. A fellow of the American Institute for Medical
and Biological Engineering, International College of Dentists,
American College of Dentists and the Academy of Dental Materials,

Marion C. Manski, RDH, MS, is an associate professor at
the Fones School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Bridgeport in
Connecticut. She has been a dental hygienist for more than 34 years
and was recognized as the 2016 “Mover and Shaker” in Decisions in
Dentistry’s sister publication Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s annual
“Six Dental Hygienists You Want to Know.” Manski was honored in 2017 by the
American Dental Hygienists’ Association with the Irene Newman Award.
