An examination of work-life areas that may contribute to substance use disorders in the dental profession — and solutions to mitigate their impact.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe substance use and addictions affecting dental personnel, and factors that contribute to the development of substance use disorders (SUDs).
  2. Explain triggers and potential consequences associated with SUDs among dentists, including burnout and suicide.
  3. Discuss preventive efforts, treatment approaches, and resources available to dentists who develop SUDs.
