Mississippi Hospitals Reduce Pediatric Dentists’ Access to Operating Rooms
Two hospitals in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, have severely limited the availability of their operating rooms for pediatric dentists to provide much-needed dental care to children who require sedation. The low rate of reimbursement provided to the hospitals from the state’s Medicaid program is thought to be the reason behind the decision. Children with special needs and/or those who need extensive dental care often require anesthesia to ensure successful dental appointments.
