Implant Registry to Open at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
Medical registries are common as they create a large amount of data that researchers use to evaluate outcomes. Dental implants have not had such a registry until now. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research is providing the University of Alabama at Birmingham with more than $2 million to create a dental implant registry. The registry will include more than 2,000 patients across the United States and will enable researchers to investigate the factors impacting the success or failure of implant therapy and the causes behind poor outcomes. Nicolaas Geurs, DDS, Weatherford/Palcanis endowed professor and chair of the university’s Department of Periodontology, will lead the registry and study. Click here to read more.
