Arkansas College Plans to Open Dental School With Private Funds
Arkansas has 96 regions noted as dental care health professional shortage areas and is meeting only 36.5% of its residents’ dental needs, according to data provided by the Kaiser Family Foundation. A small, private college in Arkansas with about 700 students and without a hefty endowment hopes to make a difference by opening a dental school. Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, plans to open the dental school in addition to a veterinary medicine program in 2024 through the use of private funding. Currently, Arkansas is without a single dental or veterinary school. The private capital organization OneHealth Education Group is partnering with Lyon College on this significant endeavor.
