Public Health Organizations Call for a Reboot on Dental Research Priorities

Leadership of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of Health, and the office of the United States Surgeon General is calling for a fresh look at dental research priorities in light of ongoing disparities related to oral health in this country. The public health officials support creating a new research agenda that investigates strategies to make professional dental care more “affordable, accessible, and responsive.” They suggest moving the provision of dental care into nontraditional settings in underserved communities, such as schools and community centers; supporting more diversity in the oral healthcare workforce; and investing more deeply into relevant oral health research topics.
