New Type of Vaccine Could Be Game Changer in the Fight Against Coronaviruses
The United States Army is developing a vaccine that may be effective against all coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine, called spike ferritin nanoparticle, utilizes ferritin, a protein, in a ball-like scaffold that encompasses imitations of a spike protein that coronaviruses use to penetrate cells. The use of many spike proteins in an orderly manner seems to initiate a strong immune response to a variety of pathogens. Results rom a murine study showed the vaccine exhibited great efficacy. The data from the vaccine’s first trial in humans are still being analyzed. Click here to read more.
