Visits from the Tooth Fairy motivate children to practice good oral hygiene habits, according to Delta Dental’s Original Tooth Fairy Poll. Conducted between Dec. 28, 2020, and Jan. 8, 2021, the poll found one in three patients reported Tooth Fairy visits to instill good oral habits in their children.

The Tooth Fairy must have some deep pockets as the poll reports the value of a lost tooth hit its highest in the poll’s 23-year history. Parents, or the Tooth Fairy, shelled out $4.70 per tooth, which is four cents higher than the gifting peak in 2017 at $4.66.

Parents also reported that the Tooth Fairy gives their child something to be excited about (53%), it’s something fun to celebrate (48%), and it makes their child feel special (46%).
