AAE Releases New Position Statement on Vital Pulp Therapy
The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) released a new position statement on vital pulp therapy that addresses diagnostic considerations, selection and placement of biomaterials, and restoration.
The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) released a new position statement on vital pulp therapy that addresses diagnostic considerations, selection and placement of biomaterials, and restoration. Previously only root canal therapy or extraction may have been considered for adult teeth with injured pulps and fully formed roots. The latest position statement supports vital pulp therapy as a treatment option for adult teeth with injured pulps and fully formed roots, and complete caries removal, with the feasibility of vital pulp therapy determined by direct inspection of the exposed dental pulp, according to the AAE.
Vital pulp therapy is widely accepted by endodontists as an option for patients who have experienced dental trauma or injury from caries or restorative procedures. A special committee of the AAE based these recommendations on recent studies demonstrating a high rate of success for these procedures in properly selected cases, according to the statement.
