WHO Changes SARS-CoV-2 Variant Names to the Greek Alphabet
In order to eliminate any stigma associated with the geographic locations of novel coronavirus variants, the World Health Organization (WHO) will name these variants using the Greek alphabet. Each new iteration of the virus will receive a different letter of the Greek alphabet. For example, the first variant to be identified, B.1.1.7, which originated in the United Kingdom, is now known as “Alpha.” The South African variant B.1.351 will now be called “Beta.” Click here to read more.
