NIH to Investigate Effects of SARS-CoV-2 on Children
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is instituting a new research program to investigate the effects of the novel coronavirus on children. While many kids develop none or few symptoms from infection with SARS-CoV-2, others come down with multisystem inflammatory syndrome, a potentially deadly illness in which severe inflammation attacks different parts of the body, including the lungs and heart. The project—Collaboration to Assess Risk and Identify Long-term Outcomes for Children with COVID (CARING for Children with COVID—will create new research protocols across three clinical networks at sites throughout the United States.
