University at Buffalo (UB) researchers will launch an online intervention to help dental patients improve oral health practices. The 2-year, $438,000 grant will allow investigators to design an intervention based on motivational interviewing to help patients establish and practice healthy brushing and flossing habits.
Under the grant, funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in the National Institutes of Health, the UB team will develop various iterations of the program after conducting focus group interviews with 32 dentists and dental hygienists, and 32 dental patients. Once developed, various iterations of the intervention will be tested on small sets of patients.
A final version of the intervention will be tested with 24 UB dental patients.
