A partnership between Delta Dental of Arizona and Phoenix Children’s Hospital will help improve medical outcomes of children undergoing treatment at the hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Delta Dental of Arizona is providing nearly $300,000 to the Delta Dental Oral Health Education pilot program. Under the partnership, oral health educators will run the program and provide oral health training to clinical staff. Patients and family members will also receive oral health instruction.

Oral health protocols will also become standardized for all pediatric patients with peripherally inserted central catheter lines in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, according to Delta Dental of Arizona.

A hospital-wide, 18-month assessment of the oral health needs of pediatric patients is also part of the program. Extending the Delta Dental Oral Health Education Program to additional areas and patient populations within the hospital is the overall goal.
