World TB Day Scheduled for March 24

Dental professionals are encouraged to join the World Health Organization’s (WHO) World TB Day on March 24. The year’s event “Unite to End TB” focuses on uniting efforts to “Leave No One Behind,” including actions to overcome barriers to access. World TB Day commemorates the date in 1882 when German physician Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacillus that causes tuberculosis (TB).

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), although TB is preventable and curable, many people in the United States still suffer from this disease. The CDC, in partnership with domestic and international organizations, is working to eradicate TB.
