Iain Chapple, PhD, BDS, FDSRCPS, FDSRCS, CCST (Rest Dent), is a professor and head of periodontology at the School of Dentistry, Institute of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical and Dental Sciences, at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom (UK). He is an honorary consultant in restorative dentistry with Birmingham Community Health Trust, University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust and Birmingham Children’s Trust. Chapple has published more than 200 research papers and written and edited seven textbooks and several book chapters. He is a former president of the International Association for Dental Research Periodontal Research Group and serves as secretary general of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and treasurer of the UK Oral and Dental Research Trust. Chapple also cochairs the EFP workshops on research and education.
