Multilevel infection control steps are needed to provide safe and effective care when using dental ultrasonic units.

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the risks posed by dental aerosols, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Explain strategies that can minimize cross-contamination risks from dental aerosols, particularly while using ultrasonic scalers.
  3. Discuss the infection prevention advantages of maintaining a high-volume evacuation device within close proximity of the ultrasonic tip.
