Exploring Alternative Payment Models for Oral Health Care

An examination of the cost and utilization of alternative payment models for oral health care over a patient’s lifetime.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

1. Explain the fundamental differences between traditional fee-for-service (FFS) oral care plans and alternative payment models (APMs), and the reasons for an increase in APM utilization.
2. Describe utilization trends in oral health care — including use by various patient populations — under either FSS or APM plans.
3. Discuss the growth in APM care, and the impact of this treatment model on health care spending over the patient’s lifetime.
