Survey Shows Many Patients Discuss Cost of Care With Providers
In a survey of 370 dental patients, more than 65% reported discussing cost of treatment with their dental providers during their past appointment. The study, published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, found that patients most likely to have discussed cost in the dental practice were between the ages of 24 and 64, reside in the South, and report difficulty managing healthcare-related costs. The conversations reportedly took place more often with dentists as compared to dental hygienists. Cost is one of the most significant barriers to professional dental care in the United States.
