One Dental School Doubles Its Number of Students
With a major expansion, Touro College of Dental Medicine is increasing its student capacity and incorporating advanced digital dentistry tools. The school’s unique approach includes accommodations for observant Jews and a new clinical rotation in New Mexico.
Touro College of Dental Medicine in Valhalla, New York, has recently undergone a significant expansion, doubling its physical footprint to better serve both its students and the community. This development includes the integration of cutting-edge digital tools and the establishment of a new research clinic.
Opening in 2016, Touro was the first dental school to open in the state of New York in almost 50 years. The school is unique in that it caters to the needs of observant Jews. There are no classes on Jewish holy days, it works with residency programs that make allowances for Sabbath, and it provides kosher food. Education on the Talmud and Torah is also offered.
The dental school’s classes were once capped at 110 students but with its acquisition of a facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, classes are now at 210 students. The first group of Touro dental students will begin a clinical rotation in New Mexico this summer.
The school also offers a digital dentistry program and a 7-year fast track so motivated students can complete a baccalaureate and dental degree in 7 years as opposed to 8. Click here to read more.
