ADA Leadership Undergoes a Shift
Raymond Cohlmia, DDS, has resigned as executive director of the American Dental Association, effective immediately, after 4 years of leading transformative initiatives. The ADA Board has appointed Elizabeth Shapiro, DDS, JD, CAE, as interim executive director while a search for a permanent successor is conducted.
The American Dental Association (ADA) has announced the resignation of Raymond A. Cohlmia, DDS, as its executive director, effective immediately. Cohlmia, who took the role in November 2021, oversaw key advancements, including the integration of the Forsyth Institute and the development of a strategic business plan aimed at strengthening the ADA’s influence in dentistry.
During his tenure, Cohlmia prioritized collaboration with dental academia and industry leaders, positioning the ADA for long-term growth and innovation. His leadership played a critical role in expanding research efforts and enhancing the organization’s advocacy for the profession.
In response to his departure, the ADA Board of Trustees has appointed Elizabeth Shapiro, DDS, JD, CAE, as interim executive director. Shapiro, a dentist and attorney with extensive experience in association leadership, will oversee ADA operations as the board searches for a permanent replacement.
