TikTok Dental Hygienist Offers 3 Tips for Easier Appointments

Maurice Moore, a San Diego-based dental hygienist on TikTok who goes by the moniker “mr.suiterdh” shared three hacks to help clinicians ease their way through common patient scenarios.

1. Patients often recoil when cold water is sprayed on their dentition. Mr.suiterdh suggests hygienists spray water into the corner of the patient’s mouth, enabling him or her to swish the water first. No more sensitivity!
2. Have an antsy kid in your chair? Mr.suitrdh recommends you use the “tell-show-do” approach, even allowing the child to feel the texture of the prophy paste. This helps kids relax, ensuring smooth sailing during the prophylaxis.
3. For patients who scrunch up their bottom lip so tight clinicians can’t access the lower anteriors, he advises asking the patient to pull down his or her own lip. This helps the patient relax, providing clinicians access for scaling these teeth.
