Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine Commemorates 50 Years of Providing Dental Education
Fifty years ago, Stony Brook University in New York admitted its first class of dental students. Since that first class of 22 students graduated, the public institution has educated more than 1,500 dentists. The school is the Long Island region’s largest provider of dental care and its onsite student dental clinic sees more than 85,000 patient visits per year. Under the guidance of Dean Patrick M. Lloyd, DDS, MS, the School of Dental Medicine stands out for its unique fellowship program specializing in the treatment of patients with special needs, a rarity in the United States.
