Dentist Faces Life in Prison for Illegally Prescribing Opioids
A Kentucky dentist was found guilty of distribution of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death in federal court. The dentist prescribed serious opioid medications to patients following routine dental procedure, which goes against the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s evidence-based guidelines on opioid prescription protocol. After performing dental procedures, for which he charged more than $36,000, the dentist prescribed a patient morphine who later died due to accidental overdose.
