Lack of Providers Means Long Wait for Dental Care in Maryland

Maryland residents with disabilities who need low- or no-cost dental care are forced to wait more than a year in some areas due to a lack of providers. The Maryland Foundation of Dentistry (MFD) has been helping those with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities access dental care for the past 35 years. Many patients need to receive dental care before they can begin treatment for serious medical issues such as cancer. However, due to a decline in dentists who provide pro bono care, wait times have continued to grow.
