Oregon Legislation Would Give Dentists More Autonomy on Reimbursement

A new bill has been introduced to the Oregon state legislature that would prohibit insurers from paying dentists by credit card without their consent. The legislation would also prevent insurers from expanding dentist members’ participation in other insurance networks without their permission. The use of credit cards comes with significant fees, which may hurt dentists’ bottom line and increase patient costs. Additionally, “leasing” out member dentists to other health insurance networks at low reimbursement rates comes at a cost to dentists.
