New Study Investigates Link Between Mental and Oral Health
A study out of the University of California, San Francisco, investigated the association between three aspects of mental health—internalizing, externalizing, and substance abuse—with six facets of oral health: self-rated oral health status, bleeding gingiva, mobility of teeth, tooth loss, periodontal diseases, and bone loss. Results showed that poor oral health outcomes were more prevalent among those who reported severe mental health problems in any of three aforementioned categories. The study was presented at the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research meeting in Portland, Oregon, on March 17. Click here to read more.
