A Look at How State Dental Workforces Have Fared Post-Pandemic
Only time will tell the myriad ways the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the United States and the world, but one thing is certain: it profoundly altered that status of the American dental workforce. Now the American Institute of Dental Public Health has published data on the decrease in dental team members by state. Overall, the dental workforce in the US declined by 3% from 2019 to 2021. The loss of dental hygienists is the most acute and has been the slowest to recover. North Dakota was the biggest loser with a 19.28% decrease in its number of dental team members.
