Fully Integrated Medical Dental Clinic Makes a Difference in Patients’ Lives

West Virginia’s Wheeling Health Right is a free clinic that offers both medical and dental care to its patients. Patients presenting to the dental clinic first see a medical provider who takes their blood pressure and goes over patients’ medication regimens before beginning dental treatment. Modeled after a medical/dental home model, the clinic also offers laboratory work, counseling, and pharmacy services. Most of the providers are volunteers, including third- and fourth-year dental students. Funded by Ohio County, the clinic hopes to add a fourth operatory and a mobile dental van in the near future.
