New Generation of Flu Vaccine May Be Tipping Point in Fight Against Influenza

Research—thus far only conducted on animal models—has found a flu vaccine that uses mRNA technology may elicit a strong immune response after exposure to all strains of influenza. More than 50,000 Americans die each year due to the flu, so developing a more effective vaccine could be a game changer. The new vaccine does not prevent illness but rather prepares the body’s immune system to mount an effective response once exposed.
