New Generation of Flu Vaccine May Be Tipping Point in Fight Against Influenza

Research—thus far only conducted on animal models—has found a flu vaccine that uses mRNA technology may elicit a strong immune response after exposure to all strains of influenza. More than 50,000 Americans die each year due to the flu, so developing a more effective vaccine could be a game changer. The new vaccine does not prevent illness but rather prepares the body’s immune system to mount an effective response once exposed. Researchers suggest the mRNA vaccine could significantly reduce the risk for flu-related morbidity and mortality if proven effective in humans. Click here to read more.
