Many Dental Practices Still Don’t Have Full Patient Schedules

New polling data from the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute show that dental practice patient schedules are about 83% full—down from 86% just a month ago. With more than 1,200 participants, the survey was conducted the week of October 18. Most practices shared that no-show appointments and last-minute cancellations have impacted their appointment schedules the most drastically. Dentists’ confidence in the ability of their practices to recover economically post-pandemic also decreased. When asked about the most serious issue impacting their practices, respondents were split, with about half citing staffing shortages while the other half noting low patient volume as the most serious problem.
