Dental Therapy Education Program in Washington State Receives Accreditation
The dental therapy education program at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Washington, recently received accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation, which evaluates the nation’s dental education programs. The program at Skagit Valley College is only the second dental therapy program to ever be accredited, with the first being Iḷisaġvik College’s Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program in 2020. In Washington state, dental therapists are allowed to practice only within the Tribal healthcare system, and the program is tailored to meet the needs of Washington’s indigenous people, mainly the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.
