
Dental Researchers Make Discovery Regarding Periodontal Diseases and Alzheimer Disease
Researchers at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine have discovered a link betweenย Fusobacterium nucleatum, a periodontal pathogen, and the progression of Alzheimer disease. They found that the pro-inflammatoryย F. nucleatumย exacerbates the signs of the neurodegenerative disease. After publishing the research inย Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, the study authors hope to prove that by targetingย F. nucleatum the progression of Alzheimer disease can be slowed.
