New Research to Investigate Etiology of Early Childhood Caries Among Underrepresented Groups

The Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester in New York has received a $3.5 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to study the factors behind early childhood caries in minority groups. Headed by Jin Xiao, DDS, PhD, the 5-year study will analyze 2,000 saliva samples from underrepresented mothers and infants to map out their oral microbiomes.
