Kennesaw State University Receives Grant to Study Varnish Application
Researchers at the Kennesaw State University Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology in Kennesaw, Georgia, received a $424,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to evaluate and eliminate barriers to the application of fluoride varnish on children’s teeth by primary care providers. Young children may not see a dentist, but they will most likely receive well visits at a pediatrician’s office, making this a prime avenue to ensure kids have access to this caries-preventive agent. The research team is videotaping the application of fluoride varnish in non-dental settings to provide children’s healthcare providers with detailed information on how long the procedure takes and details about billing.
