FDI Releases Consensus Statement on Environmentally Sustainable Oral Healthcare
The FDI World Federation published its first ever consensus statement on supporting environmentally sustainable healthcare on March 31. FDI President Professor Ihsane Ben Yahya of the Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences, Casablanca, Morocco, notes that healthcare is responsible for 5% of greenhouse gas emissions. Oral healthcare contributes to environmental harm through waste production, packaging of dental products, distribution of gases into the air from nitrous oxide, and high water use.
