Effects of COVID-19 on Dental Hygienists Are Revealed

A partnership between the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Association has resulted in a variety of data regarding job status, infection control, and vaccine prevalence among United States hygienists. Published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene, the research reveals that a significant number of dental hygienists who chose to stop working during the pandemic have not returned, dental hygienists experienced a low rate of COVID-19 infection (8.8%), and most dental hygienists are fully vaccinated (75.4% by August 30, 2021).
