Thousands of Americans Left the City for More Remote Locations During the Pandemic

According to United States Census Bureau data, thousands of Americans left large metropolises for smaller areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reasons behind these moves were less about fear of the novel coronavirus, and more about a desire to be close to family members. Those most likely to have made such moves had higher incomes and more flexible employment than those who chose to remain in the nation’s largest cities.
