Four States Add COVID-19 Lotteries to Boost Vaccination Rates
Ohio, Maryland, New York, and Oregon are offering lotteries worth millions of dollars to increase vaccination rates. On May 13, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that Ohio residents ages 18 and older who receive a COVID-19 vaccination will be entered to win one of five lotteries worth $1 million each. Those younger than 18 who get a COVID-19 shot are eligible to win one of five full college scholarships. Since the lotteries were introduced, Ohio’s vaccination rate is up 28%. On May 25, Maryland will begin offering a $40,000 prize every day to vaccinated residents through July 3. New York has also introduced a $5 million lottery open to New York residents who get vaccinated between May 24 and May 28. The Oregon lottery just announced that it will host a $1 million giveaway on June 28 for Oregonians who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination. Click here to read more.
