Nursing Homes Experience Steep Declines in COVID-19 Cases
Good news regarding the global pandemic has abounded in recent weeks, and nowhere has that been more apparent than in nursing homes. Originally the hardest hit with more than 162,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19 illness since the start of the pandemic, nursing homes are now experiencing the most significant decreases in COVID-19 case numbers. From December to February, COVID-19 case numbers have fallen by 80% in nursing homes. This percentage is double the declines seen in the general population. Residents and staff of long-term care facilities were in the first priority groups for vaccine distribution and this seems to have dealt a significant blow to the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
