Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine Also Shows High Level of Efficacy
Moderna just released data on the results of its large-scale clinical trial on a COVID-19 vaccine, and the results are something to celebrate; the vaccine demonstrated 94.5% effectiveness with few safety concerns. Similar to the vaccine created by Pfizer, the Moderna vaccine is based on synthetic messenger RNA (mRNA), a new technology that helps the body’s own immune system identify and then combat the novel coronavirus by copying its surface. The Moderna vaccine requires two doses, given 28 days apart, and requires refrigeration (between 36° and 46° F), but does not need sub-zero temperature storage, which gives it an advantage over the Pfizer vaccine, which must be kept at -94° F.
