Oregon Dentists Are Ready to Administer COVID-19 Vaccine

Although no COVID-19 vaccine is ready for distribution yet, dentists in Oregon are prepared to administer it and other necessary vaccinations to their patients. In May 2019, Oregon became the first state to allow dentists to prescribe and administer immunizations. Minnesota and Illinois allow dentists to administer flu vaccinations only to adult patients. Currently, the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry in Portland offers training to dentists from across the state who are interested in administering vaccines. The school is advocating to expand the ability of dentists to give vaccinations nationwide, as many children and adults miss recommended immunizations due to the global pandemic, but may still see their oral healthcare provider.
