NIH Researchers Introduce Plan to Improve Sars-CoV-2 Testing
With the need for simple, point-of-care testing that provides rapid results continuing to grow across the United States, scientists from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently introduced the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program. Funded by $1.5 billion from the federal government, the program is dedicated to identifying effective testing methods with the goal of completing 6 million tests on a daily basis by the end of the year; creating new technology platforms that will make this type of testing capacity feasible; investigating alternative forms of virus testing than have been utilized before; and establishing community-based testing initiatives to address disparities in access among underserved communities.
