FDA Calls Out Manufacturers Making False Claims About COVID-19 Products
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued warning letters to five companies that are falsely marketing their products as treatments for COVID-19. The warning letters ask manufacturers to voluntarily stop making false claims. If they do not comply within the specified timeframe, the FDA will take further enforcement action.
The FDA notes that no products with proven efficacy and safety to treat COVID-19 are currently available. The companies that received warning letters for selling products with false or misleading claims that the products can mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 are as follows:
- SinoTradition.com: “Lianhua Qingwen Capsules” and “Qing Fei Pai Du Tang”
- Butterfly Expressions: Blessed waters, essential oils, hand sanitizers, homeopathic products, and tinctures
- Lotus Herbal Supplements: “Lianhua Qingwen Capsules”
- Lianhuaqingwencaps.com: “Lianhua Qingwen”
- Shen Clinic LLC: “SHUANG HUANG LIAN”
