US Backs AstraZeneca Vaccine With $1.2 Billion Via Operation Warp Speed
The United States Department of Health and Human Services announced it has secured 300 million doses of an experimental vaccine created by AstraZeneca in partnership with Oxford University as part of Operation Warp Speed. The influx of cash will help push the vaccine’s development forward while also ensuring that Americans will have access to a large number of doses. A phase III clinical trial of the vaccine will be conducted on 30,000 subjects in the US.
Operation Warp Speed is a US program dedicated to furthering the development and application of a COVID-19 vaccine and ensuring access for Americans. Many see a vaccine as the catalyst to getting the world’s economies moving again. The first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine may be available as soon as September.
